Tooling for rotational
molding is less expensive than that needed for injection or blow-molding. Rotational molds
have no internal core and parts are formed using a controlled combination of heat and
two-axis rotation to slowly layer the sides of the hot mold with a even coating of
plastic.
The molds are cooled
externally with air and water mist before parts can be removed. This production method
eliminates the need for complex mold interiors with multiple internal flow channels and
chiller vanes.
